Shoe Care & Maintenance

At Custom Made Fitted Bespoke Shoes, we take pride in the quality and craftsmanship of our ready-made women's footwear. With proper care, your Loafers, Ballet Flats, Flat Sandals, Platform Shoes, and Sneakers will remain beautiful and comfortable for many seasons. This Shoe Care & Maintenance guide provides general recommendations to help you maintain your shoes.

1. Daily Wearing & Rotation

  • Rotate your shoes: Avoid wearing the same pair on consecutive days. Allowing at least 24 hours of rest helps the materials recover their shape and moisture to evaporate naturally.

  • Use a shoehorn: Always use a shoehorn when putting on your shoes to prevent damage to the heel counter and maintain the shape of the back of the shoe.

  • Indoor try-on: When trying on your new shoes for the first time, walk only on clean, carpeted indoor surfaces until you are certain you wish to keep them. This protects the soles from scuffs and ensures the shoes remain in return-eligible condition (see our Return and Refund Policy).

2. Cleaning & Maintenance by Material

Leather (Smooth & Polished)

  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear to remove dust and dirt.

  • Use a high-quality leather cleaner and conditioner every few weeks to nourish the material and prevent cracking.

  • Apply a matching or neutral shoe polish to maintain a polished appearance and add a protective layer.

Suede & Nubuck

  • Brush regularly with a soft suede brush to lift the nap and remove surface dirt.

  • For stains, use a suede eraser or a specialized suede cleaner. Avoid water, which can cause spotting and stiffening.

  • Apply a suede protector spray before first wear and periodically thereafter.

Patent Leather

  • Wipe gently with a damp, soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

  • Use a patent leather-specific conditioner to prevent the glossy finish from becoming brittle or cloudy.

Canvas & Textile

  • Brush off loose dirt with a soft brush or dry cloth.

  • Spot clean with a mild soap solution and a damp cloth. Do not machine wash, as this can damage adhesives and shape.

  • Air dry away from direct heat or sunlight.

Synthetic Materials

  • Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use harsh chemicals.

3. Insole & Interior Care

  • If your shoes become damp, remove the insoles (if removable) and stuff the toe area with clean tissue paper or a shoe tree to absorb moisture and maintain shape.

  • Allow shoes to air dry naturally. Never place shoes near radiators, heaters, or in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as excessive heat can warp the materials and weaken adhesives.

4. Sole & Heel Maintenance

  • Check the soles and heel tips periodically for signs of wear. Worn soles can affect comfort and traction.

  • For leather soles, consider having a protective rubber half-sole applied by a professional cobbler if you plan to wear them outdoors frequently.

  • Avoid wearing shoes in heavy rain or through standing water, which can saturate and damage the materials.

5. Storage

  • Store your shoes in the original shoe box or a dust bag, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

  • Use shoe trees (preferably cedar wood) to help maintain shape and absorb moisture.

  • Keep shoes in a cool, dry environment. Avoid plastic bags for long-term storage, as leather and textiles need to breathe.
